Frequently Asked Questions

What is FilmMyHouse.net?

FilmMyHouse.net is a web site designed to showcase property owners who are interested in using their properties as film locations. And equally, delivering eager properties quickly and economically to Location Scouts, Managers and Producers working on film, television, commercial and still projects all across the United States and abroad.

I found myself filming projects in neighborhoods and constantly being asked by neighbors one question. And it was the same question over and over again, "How can I get my house in the movies?" I would refer homeowners to a few of the location services that I trusted and got back to the set. While prepping a large shoot in a residential area that I was scouting, many residents inquired how to get scouts to look at their homes. It hit me. The idea was so obvious. I do this everyday for Producers, but homeowners don't know who to talk to or where to go to list their homes.

Now they do. FilmMyHouse.net is designed as a direct conduit for Location Managers and Scouts, Producers and Directors who are looking for a quick internet accessible data bank of homes and business that want filming. The managers, scouts, producers and directors sign into FilmMyHouse.net and go directly to the homes and businesses that are of interest to their specific job. Where they can find your e-mail addresses and contacts of those properties. Quick and easy. We don't draw up contracts or negotiate fees. We are not on site reps (but there is a page of site reps available for home owners to choose from) and we are not middle men. We just put Locations and Location professionals together. It is that easy.

How does FimMyHouse.net work?

FilmMyHouse.net is a direct marketing web site exposing your home for possible filming of movies, television series, commercials and still photo shoots.

Once you have signed up and your listing is posted on-line, your home will be featured both on the site and through our weekly newsletters.

Then, if your home or property attracts the attention of a Location Scout, Producer or production company, the companies will contact you directly to negotiate the renting of your space (See "the experience" for more information).

Do you guarantee that I will be able to rent my house to the movies?

No. We can’t guarantee that any property will be chosen for filming, but we do expose your property to the select group of Location Scouts, Location Managers, Producers and Directors that make the decisions of which properties are used for filming a particular project.

How much should I charge the production company to use my property?

This, as many issues in life, are negotiable. Productions always have budgets to meet and my have a amount in mind when they approach you. How much is your property worth? Typically as much as someone will pay you. But how do you figure out what that might be? One way to determine a fee is to ask for a month’s mortgage payment as a shooting (daily) fee. With prep and wrap days (days to prepare [prep or dress] a location, and remove [strike] the location) at half that amount.

How much are you going to charge to rent your location? Ultimately, that is up to you. But if you are unreasonable and asking too much for your property, you will probably find that the movie company will look elsewhere for their location.

Are the rental fees from filming tax free income?
